Forging the blade

In the forge

Rough forging complete

Grinding- Setting bevel
I use the 8" round wheel to true up the edge symmetry and remove as much of the steel as I can before going to the flat platen

Closeup of grinding

Flat platen grinding
After establishing the symmetry, I move to the flat platen and refine the geometry of the bevels and take the knife down close to final dimensions before heat treating

Grind is complete
Now I am ready to heat treat.

Out of the quench
Blade has just cooled out of the quench oil and still shows scale and colors from the quench

Hand polishing
I took this one down to about 220 grit on the grinder after heat treat and then switched to hand polishing at 220,320 and 400 grit. I polished 2 directions at 400 grit and then pulled a clean satin finish down the blade. I went over it with 600 grit loaded with Schimichrome for the final finish
